Fall Work Weekend 2008 a Success!

Greetings, all!

First, Camp has found an official recruiter--Allison Laney! Thanks to all who helped spread the word of the position. Allison is very excited about being CJL's recruiter, and would love any ideas y'all might have, or to know if anyone would be interested in volunteering to help with some small things like putting up fliers at your work, school, child's school, etc. You can reach her at allison dot laney at cjl dot org. Any and all ideas are welcome!

Fall Work Weekend was a bright success. It was a cold few mornings on the mountains, but Dot's cooking with the help of a few of our Board Members kept us all going. The three major projects that got done were: putting a new tin roof on top of the Sherwood Unit Kitchen (and raising it--so that counselors and tall campers won't whack their heads on the beams!), raising the Glen cook shed roof (also so people won't whack their heads on it), and stuffing/addressing/sealing all of the fall mailings.

The Glen cook shed had not been worked on except to be raised once since its original debut in the 80's, and was a little the worse for wear, so it just got taken down and almost completely rebuilt.

Other things accomplished during Work Weekend included putting up plastic in the dining hall windows, fixing the wiring in the staff house, putting in new toe-kicks in all the tents where needed, nailing down loose nails in the tent floors, and attempting to fix the second shower in Four Winds--the one that sprays cold water from the handle while you shower. All in all, it was a fun and productive weekend!

Remember that CJL History Tours will be put on this Saturday, October 18th, if you or anyone you know is interested! We have had a lot of visitors for the past History Tours, and it's a fun time to come learn a little more about the history of our wonderful Juliette Low.
