Summer's almost here!

Hello, all!

Last weekend was CJL's annual Parent-Daughter weekend, and though it rained the entire time, it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves. We offered classes at the lake, arts and crafts, archery, and the climbing wall, had an auction in the afternoon in lieu of going to the swimming hole, and had an excellent 70's themed party in the evening planned by Florrie Johnson! It was a lot of fun, and even the parents got involved at the station where the game Twister was played.

Reunion is coming up soon--this year it is June 5 - 7, the weekend before Camp officially opens for the summer. More information about CJL's Reunion weekend can be found at http://www.cjl.org/reunion.html. This year's Reunion is being headed up by sisters Cassandra (Rogers) Beall and Amy (Rogers) Deuley, and they have some fun activities planned! We'd love to see you there!

We are still looking for a few staff members for this summer. If you know anyone who fits the bill for these positions, please contact cjl.recruiter@gmail.com or info@cjl.org, or have them do so ASAP!

*A nurse the first week of 4th session (July 5 - July 11)
*Pool director 3rd - 5th sessions (June 28 - August 2; at least 20 years of age, lifeguard certified, WSI certified preferred)
*Kitchen assistant (all summer)
*Project Adventure/Ropes Course Director (all summer; at least 20 years of age, belay and ropes course certified, ropes course experience)

Thanks to all who made Parent-Daughter a success, and we hope to see each and every one of you alumna at Reunion this year!

Spread the Word about CJL!

Spring is (mostly) in the air these days, which means it's getting closer to time for camp! We still have a few staff positions that need to be filled. Perhaps you know of someone who would be good for the job, or maybe you have a climbing gym, outdoor club, university, etc. in your town that might let you put up a flier advertising CJL's job openings.

We are still looking for:

*a Lake director
*a Pool director for part of the summer
*a Ropes Course director
*various unit staff positions
*Kitchen positions

If you would like to get a copy of the staff job openings flier e-mailed to you to print out and put up, please e-mail Allison Laney at cjl.recruiter@gmail.com!

We also need to spread the word to potential campers and their parents. What can you, as a CJL alumna, do to help? Quite a few things, actually!

Among other things, you can:

*Host a DVD viewing party at your home, church, or work
*Talk to parents at your child's school
*See if your child's school would allow you to put brochures out
*Help sponsor a friend's daughter if you do not have camper-age girls
*Bring someone to Parent-Daughter Weekend
*Tell stories about all your fantastic memories of camp!

If you need brochures or DVDs or other materials to help get the word out, you can contact Peggy at the winter office or Allison Laney at the e-mail address listed above.

Don't forget that we have a few camp fairs coming up, as well! Stop by and say hi, or send friends with daughters to come see us!

Fall Work Weekend 2008 a Success!

Greetings, all!

First, Camp has found an official recruiter--Allison Laney! Thanks to all who helped spread the word of the position. Allison is very excited about being CJL's recruiter, and would love any ideas y'all might have, or to know if anyone would be interested in volunteering to help with some small things like putting up fliers at your work, school, child's school, etc. You can reach her at allison dot laney at cjl dot org. Any and all ideas are welcome!

Fall Work Weekend was a bright success. It was a cold few mornings on the mountains, but Dot's cooking with the help of a few of our Board Members kept us all going. The three major projects that got done were: putting a new tin roof on top of the Sherwood Unit Kitchen (and raising it--so that counselors and tall campers won't whack their heads on the beams!), raising the Glen cook shed roof (also so people won't whack their heads on it), and stuffing/addressing/sealing all of the fall mailings.

The Glen cook shed had not been worked on except to be raised once since its original debut in the 80's, and was a little the worse for wear, so it just got taken down and almost completely rebuilt.

Other things accomplished during Work Weekend included putting up plastic in the dining hall windows, fixing the wiring in the staff house, putting in new toe-kicks in all the tents where needed, nailing down loose nails in the tent floors, and attempting to fix the second shower in Four Winds--the one that sprays cold water from the handle while you shower. All in all, it was a fun and productive weekend!

Remember that CJL History Tours will be put on this Saturday, October 18th, if you or anyone you know is interested! We have had a lot of visitors for the past History Tours, and it's a fun time to come learn a little more about the history of our wonderful Juliette Low.
